After relocating to Australia this year, P3PPER has released his new EP Love Me Like through Toronto- and Brooklyn-based label no content, co-founded by DJ Planet Express. Working from a new base, he uses the release to connect the sensibility he has developed so far with the musical direction he plans to pursue next.
Love Me Like is a three-track EP that preserves P3PPER’s euphoric, lyrical atmosphere while giving each track more immediate dancefloor impact. It is his first completed project since returning to music following military service, balancing catchy melodies and layered textures with rough-edged drums.
Written during a trip to Sydney, title track “Love Me Like” centres on a catchy melody and establishes a reference point for the music P3PPER wants to present next. “Forgive” explores the sensory pleasure created by layering varied textures, while “Can’t Stop” sets a wistful melody against rough-edged drums to produce a paradoxical mood and the EP’s most concentrated euphoric energy.
Love Me Like marks the beginning of P3PPER’s next phase in Australia. By carrying his melodic sensibility into a more immediate dancefloor framework, the EP sets expectations for how his music and wider activity will develop from here.
