Now based in Australia, P3PPER joins longtime friend and collaborator Jibaan for Regardless, their new EP released September 25 on NCS. Bringing together “Halcyon”, “Again (In My Mind)”, “Dreaming” and “Toujours”, the four-track release captures moments and feelings from life in a new environment.
Two of its tracks began with a specific place and a memory of the day. “Halcyon” was first called “St. Kilda”, sketched after a visit to St Kilda Beach. “Again (In My Mind)” began after visiting friends at their home on Collins Street and carried the working title “Collins”. Those early names trace the connection between everyday experiences and the music they inspired.
While living in Korea, P3PPER would often spend more than ten hours at his computer, even on days when ideas were not coming together. Moving to Australia brought a change in perspective: spending time with people he cares about and making room for new experiences could lead to better ideas. Remembering the feelings of a day and beginning with a loose sketch became an important part of making this EP.
P3PPER and Jibaan started making music together in middle school. Now continuing their collaboration in Australia, they share an approach built on expressing the music they love freely while respecting each genre’s identity. P3PPER’s ongoing search through old sample CDs and his enthusiasm for creating sounds remain part of that process.
Following the September 4 release of “Again (In My Mind)”, Regardless brings their shared musical outlook and life in Australia into four tracks. “I hope the moments I’ve felt in my life can live on and reach people in the form of music,” says P3PPER.
